Tucked away in the quiet woodlands of Booker is this tiny pub/restaurant with an amazing atmosphere. The Squirrel boasts a traditional English country pub feel with a modern twist. The bar is a cosy place to have a drink by the fire and the restaurant is a classy place to have a meal.
With a brand new (completely homemade!) menu offering classic pub grub, but also some more refined dishes, there is something for everyone. The Squirrel offers a Lunch, Dinner, Burger and Salad, Sunday Lunch and even an On the Run menu for those of you in a rush. Sunday lunches are advised to be booked in advance as their hearty roasts are ever so popular. Dinner portions will not disappoint!
The highlights of our visit were seeing mussels in a creamy white wine broth on the menu (a rare inclusion these days so we had to try them), the warming vegetable soup, beautifully styled trio of pork (which came with dauphinois potatoes – yum!), the Squirrel’s special handmade burger which was juicy and comforting with thick cut chips and classic desserts of crème brûlée and chocolate fondant (which was rich and oozy with a creamy scoop of ice cream).
Our visit was made super special by the kind helpful waiter and the friendliness of the rest of the staff. The Landlords made everyone feel welcome by interacting with customers and making sure their food and experience was the best it could be.
The Squirrel hold a quiz night every other Thursday at 8pm; booking recommended.
The pub/restaurant is family and dog friendly. In the summer guests can enjoy garden seating and have a play on their outdoor pool table.
