Avenue Q Interview

Laugh-out-loud humour with a heart: Avenue Q comes to the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre

The notoriously naughty adult puppet show, Avenue Q, is coming to the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre from Monday 22nd to Saturday 27th July.

The brainchild of Robert Lopez, co-creator of the hit Broadway musical The Book of Mormon, and Jeff Marx, Avenue Q has been delighting audiences for nearly 20 years, with its alternative adult puppetry and some seriously salacious comedy.

However, as actor-turned-puppeteer Cecily Redman tells me, the show also has a poignant beauty that hasn’t been lost over the years.

“It’s got a really good heart aside from the jokes and the naughty bits!” laughs Cecily. “We do say it’s for over 14s though…but we have had children in the front row before!”

But despite the cheeky and, at times, X-rated humour, the show can still be meaningful for anyone and everyone, says Cecily:

“We do get a real mix of people of all ages,” she muses. “Sometimes the show stops for a whole minute while the audience laughs…but it still has a good heart.

“It’s hilarious and soulful…and furry!”

Avenue Q is at the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre from Monday 22nd July to Saturday 27th July. Tickets can be purchased here: https://www.atgtickets.com/shows/avenue-q/aylesbury-waterside-theatre/
