Charcuterie, cocktails and mocktails: COLUCO review

Although Tring may be just across the border from our beloved Bucks, heading over to Hertfordshire for dinner at COLUCO was a trip more than worth taking.

An acronym for Coffee, Lunch and Cocktails, COLUCO in Tring is the brand-new sister to the restaurant of the same name in Thame. As the name suggests, COLUCO’s focus is all about providing a relaxed and rustic atmosphere for having a calming morning brew, a sophisticated lunch date, or a big night out with the amazing cocktail menu on offer (we were even treated to a bespoke mocktail for the designated driver!).

As a venue, it’s a wonderful place to be. Built into one of Tring high street’s old-fashioned shops, it’s a small and intimate space without feeling cramped or claustrophobic. Wooden tables and dimmed lights complete the atmosphere, making it feel ambient and comfortable – perfect for dinner for two.

The menu presents something a bit different too; rather than being a classic starter-main restaurant, COLUCO offers a range of sharing platters with cured meats, olives, sourdough and dips; a variety of smaller, tapas-like, mains such as mac and cheese and smoked haddock and salmon croquettes; there are a range of salads if you’re looking for something a little lighter (I can personally recommend the ‘Vegan Salad’, a combination of roasted butternut squash, bulgur wheat and plenty of other delicious fruits and vegetables); and there are plenty of exciting side dishes too, from root vegetable crisps and olives to pistachios and salted giant corn. As a personal recommendation, the grazing board was a delight, and the red-pepper hummus alone made the journey from Bucks to Herts more than worth it.

If you’re looking for a relaxed and chic environment to have a meal out at a more than reasonable price, COLUCO is the place to go; with a menu to please anyone and cocktails that would liven up any meal, it’s the ideal place for celebrating an event or just a chilled evening out.
