Local female owned businesses join forces to launch an eco-conscious gift store

When two small business owners met on Instagram in lockdown 2.0 in 2021, little did they realise their passion for the planet and promoting small indie businesses would lead to opening a store together! But that’s what happened with Bierton local Claire Ashton and Oving based Jen Burton.

From talking on Instagram to meeting for a coffee in real life, fast forward 7 months and their enthusiasm for working with small brands has led to new collaboration, Kinship Local. The new store is in a wooden cabin, set in the grounds of Wild Raven Farm Shop in Rowsham. “It’s teeny”, says Claire Ashton, “but we will be packing it full of incredible brands that have the same ethos we do when it comes to small business- exceptional quality, contemporary design and a love for the planet.”

Kinship Local offers shoppers the opportunity to browse a curated selection from small businesses that all share an  affinity for working in an eco-conscious way, making in small batches and supporting one another. From Jen’s own vegan scented candle range, Scent & Seed, to Claire’s bright and fun art prints, homeware and jewellery via her website Soul & Kind, the shop will be packed full of accessories, clothing, homewares and bath and body products that all take the planet into consideration.

On top of their own products they will also be offering “pop-up” space to a handful of small makers. “ The last year of business has been fairly tough at times, due to the cancelling of the fairs and events which I rely on for a huge part of my turnover. Claire and I thought offering shop space to other small makers would be a great way to keep fresh new stock coming in and hopefully help some of the other makers that have suffered in similar ways to us.” says Jen Burton.

Opening on the 10th June, Kinship Local at the Cabin gives you the chance to buy exceptional quality gifts or treats for yourself, from a whole host of small businesses. Why not pop to Wild Raven Farm Shop for a coffee and have a browse whilst you’re there.
