Green Cellars Review

by Claire Ellis

One of the great things about driving around France is the opportunity to ‘try’ and ‘buy’ some fabulous wines that you just don’t find in our shops and supermarkets. In my mind, nothing beats sitting with a crisp cold French Rose overlooking a vineyard or a beach – ummmm.

So, what better a find than the Green Cellars website? It’s a great concept, based here in Bucks, that sells wine from small family-owned vineyards, with nothing mass produced, and with all the eco credentials such as organic, vegan, sustainable and biodynamic.

We tried out a mixed case of Rose wines, all French and all superb, and we mean, really superb. We started with the keenly priced Lorgeril, Languedoc Rose ‘Bastion de la Cite’ 2020 and thought it went beautifully with our Friday curry, really crisp and fruity; it went down far too well.

Then we tried the Domaine de la Grande Courtade Rose l’instant, even better and again great value for money, refreshingly light and dry with a really subtle bouquet, definitely a winner with our chicken dinner.

For Provence in a glass you just have to try the organically produced Villa Victorine Côtes de Provence Rosé which was fruity and left us with a gorgeous afterglow.

Upping our game, we devoured the outstanding La Bastide Des Oliviers Rose 2019 which was really fresh and light, with such a delicate colour. For the more discerning you should try the Cuvee Justine Rose of the same Chateau.

Then to cap it all we tried the organic Chateau La Mascaronne Quat Saissons Rose, surely my favourite, leaving me with a long fresh and delicate finish to our little journey around Provence.

I have to say I’m quite looking forward to the summer now with a mixed case of Rose – some that will quench my thirst as I read a book and others for a more upmarket summers BBQ.
