The Laura Ashley Tea Room at Burnham Beeches Hotel
I recently received an invitation for afternoon tea for two at the Laura Ashley tearoom in the Burnham Beeches Hotel. I knew immediately that I would ask my sister to accompany me as she has always been a great fan of Laura Ashley fashion and homeware.
We dressed in our prettiest floral clothes and were soon sitting at a table in the window in the most beautifully decorated tea room. The tables were laid with pristine white tablecloths and pretty Laura Ashley tableware – in fact the whole room had been decorated in Laura Ashley, from the floor to ceiling curtains to the pretty mirrors on the walls.
Fernando, the restaurant and tea room General Manager, was very attentive and nothing was too much trouble for him. Upon our arrival we were welcomed and served with a glass of iced cucumber water and an amuse bouche of strawberry parfait topped with strawberry coulis and a fresh strawberry to whet our appetites. Our choice of tea was taken, Earl Grey for my sister and English Breakfast tea for me which was served in pretty matching teapots and made with real tea leaves; don’t forget to use the tea strainer!
The afternoon tea is a set menu for £24 and we were served with a selection of sandwiches on different types of bread, both sultana and plain scones with strawberry jam and cream and a selection of small cakes including English Victoria sponge – all presented on a three tier silver cake stand.
Don’t underestimate how filling an afternoon tea can be! We had forgone lunch so arrived ravenous but still failed to eat everything. Luckily, they offer pretty boxes so you can take your leftovers away to enjoy later.
