THE WORLD may have been in lockdown for a year but, throughout the pandemic, vulnerable children are continuing to come into care and are in urgent need of a permanent and loving family.
Parents And Children Together (PACT) is an experienced and committed voluntary adoption agency which has been building and strengthening families across the south east since 1911. It has been rated Outstanding by Ofsted twice and offers award-winning adoption support for life. In 2020 PACT placed 89 children with 66 PACT families.
PACT’s Adopter Recruitment Officer Grace Gomez said: ”Most people have the qualities to be a great parent but might not know that they could be eligible to adopt.”
You can adopt if:
You are single, married or in a long term ‘live in’ relationship
You own your own home or rent
You have a disability or are managing health conditions
You have birth children
You are over 45 – there is no upper age limit for adopters.
Grace said: “We welcome all people regardless of their ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality or faith in order to reflect the diverse society we live in. In 2020, 29% of our adopters were from the LGBT Community and 29% were from the Black and Minority Ethnic community.”
PACT adopters Rose and Simon* started the adoption process in January 2020. Rose said the experience was “absolutely incredible”.
“When we heard about the lockdown in March we were really worried that the process would be delayed, but we needn’t have as PACT adapted really quickly. Our family finder didn’t skip a beat, she had her finger on the pulse and knew exactly what we were looking for.
“Our daughter came home in November 2020. Meeting her in person was more than we could have ever dreamed. The introduction process was manged so well, our daughter has settled in really well.
“It has been the best year for us. To anyone considering adoption at this time I would say, don’t let the pandemic put you off. Children do still need homes.”
PACT is appealing to anyone who feels they could offer a secure and loving family to a child or children to get in touch on 0300 456 4800 to find out more. PACT has a downloadable Guide to Adoption on its website at www.pactcharity.org.
