Beautify, Relax, Unwind

Located within Audley Chalfont Dene in the peaceful village of Chalfont St Peter, the Bodhi Tree Spa is a touch of 5 star luxury offering impressive facilities and treatments all under one roof.

The Spa’s philosophy is restoring the natural balance between mind and body within a truly relaxing environment, so you will leave feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and pampered, like the best version of yourself.

Although the Spa is available to residents of the retirement village, it is also open to the public. The Spa was set up in June 2016 by Carla Pasco Jones, who wanted to create a haven that welcomed the local community to come and escape for a while, whether for an hour, a day, or overnight (there are two guest suites available).

The Spa is definitely the perfect place for adults of all ages. Myself and my husband (aged 24 and 26) thoroughly enjoyed the ambience, especially in the pool area, complete with luxurious changing rooms, sauna, lounge chairs, and calming spa music. The water was lovely and warm, something that’s not always the case in public pools! Memberships are available for the pool and well-equipped gym, which has a really exclusive and comfortable feel, but use of these facilities is included in spa days and treatments (£80 +).

There is a huge array of treatments available including facials, nails, hair removal, tanning, holistic treatments, as well as a cosy hair salon that offers both cut and colour and even has a specialist Balayage technician, Daisy. Prices start at just £50 for a ladies cut and finish – brilliant value.

During our visit to the Bodhi Tree Spa, we were lucky enough to try out a range of treatments. First was Reiki with Shaylini, an experienced Reiki Master who also writes for The Huffington Post. After making myself comfortable in the incense-scented room, Shaylini explained to me that Reiki is a natural and non-invasive healing energy technique that works on imbalances in the four levels of our being: mental, physical emotional and spiritual. The treatment was a wholly unique experience that left me feeling uplifted and lighter with a lovely feeling of clarity. It is difficult to explain the experience, but I encourage any of you who may be experiencing some kind of pain or imbalance to give Reiki with Shaylini a try, and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Next was Performance Kinesiology with Craig Buchanan, which focuses on the chemical, structural and psychological components of pain in the human body. Again, this was an entirely new treatment for me but one I learnt a lot from, in terms of how pain can manifest due to so much more than the pain itself. Craig can address the true cause of pain or discomfort and help to resolve it using this dynamic concept in health and wellbeing.

Next, my husband enjoyed a Swedish massage while I had an ELEMIS facial. ELEMIS products are luxurious and hydrating, which my skin was in dire need of after coming back off holiday into this cold weather! Dark circles under my eyes have always been a problem and they were nowhere to be seen after this facial. Again, highly recommended for an instant pamper and refresh.

Finally, we both had a reflexology session from Tia, something I was quite dubious about due to my ticklish feet, a problem that Tia says she sees regularly. Powder is used rather than oil for maximum grip, and after my initial jumpy reaction, I settled into the treatment and even drifted off to sleep for a while. It was fascinating to hear how our feet can hold much of the tension we feel in our bodies and minds, so a reflexology session can help to restore us back to health and happiness.

The day ended with a delicious afternoon tea in the Bistro, an immaculate area where you can grab a coffee, read the paper and relax with friends over lunch. The view over the grounds is beautiful and the food was presented with such care and attention. Alongside the Bistro is the Lytton Restaurant where residents and public alike can enjoy a simple and classy dinner menu or a Sunday carvery. For more information visit www.lyttonrestaurant.co.uk
