Marlow’s Sindhu by Atul Kochhar captures the real taste of India
“This tastes amazing, just like we had in India” was Rachel’s comment on the divinely delicious Chickpea Chat Cone we had been served.
Now I haven’t ever visited India, but my three (grown up) children all have, for one reason or another. They have often commented on how Indian food in this country is lovely, but not authentic, at least not for where they have visited.
Obviously, when a restaurant is owned by Indian-born and twice Michelin starred chef Atul Kochhar, you expect great things to come out of the kitchen. And so it was, with an eagerness not often seen, we awaited the next contemporary style dish on the 7 course Tasting Menu.
Dish after dish tickled our tastebuds with incredible aromas, vibrant flavours, intricate creations and exquisite presentation. The service was second to none too, which is proof that the restaurant has a genuine desire to please their customers. Excellent service (and great food) creates loyal customers who return time and time again and this is what we hear about Sindhu all the time from friends and colleagues, and now we can understand why.
Priced at £69 pp, or £120 pp with pairing wines, you have a choice of mains such as Grilled Romney Marsh Lamb Chop or Ghee Seared Roe Deer, or opt for the full vegetarian menu (Atul’s Tandoori Veg Tikka Pie was delicious).
Our personal favourites were the Chickpea Chat Cone, the Dhahi Kebab, the John Dory and the Tandoori Pheasant.
If you love traditional Indian cuisine, with a contemporary twist, this seasonal menu will fill your heart with joy.
Located in the Macdonald Compleat Angler Hotel, beside the River Thames, it’s no wonder this restaurant has 2 AA rosette awards for culinary excellence!
