The Firecrest

We can’t tell you how many times we have driven past this rural pub/restaurant and thought “we must go in there one day”.

So, on a recent Sunday, as we were heading to Aylesbury Waterside Theatre, we stopped off for Sunday lunch.

We love Sunday lunch here at hiya bucks. It’s a big family occasion, a time when everyone gets together and has a good chat. However, with just the two of us at home on this particular Sunday, the temptation to opt out of cooking was all too great; table for two please at The Firecrest.

Part of the Vintage Inn chain, this pilot restaurant (a training hub) cooks everything on site (apart from the gluten free gravy) and you can tell by the high standard of the food.

Seated by one of their many rustic open fires, we thawed out after battling with Storm Ciara, or Dennis or Jorge, or whichever storm it happened to be that day; it was nice to be toasty warm inside.

I can highly recommend the Wild Caught Tempura Prawns, served with a rice cracker and soy, lime and chilli dip. Almost certainly one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted; big compliments to the chef for creating the thinnest, crispiest, lightest rice cracker – yum!

The roasts were delicious too, all served with a giant Yorkshire pudding that tasted as good as any I have made at home (I’ve made a fair few over the years) plus all the usual trimmings. Slow cooked pork belly with crispy crackling, marinated lamb rump, sirloin of beef, breast of turkey, tomato and almond bake or, if you really can’t decide, a roast trio of 3 for just £14.95. Served with as much gravy as you like, order an extra Yorkshire for just 50p and you’ll be full for the rest of the week.

The restaurant is like a tardis, with rooms leading off of rooms, cosy corners and large tables for big family gatherings. There’s a place for everyone at The Firecrest. The bar is dog friendly and the spacious garden looks like it will be popular in warmer weather. It’s a great location, on the A413 just south of Wendover, and is perfect for walkers enjoying the Chiltern hills, family get-togethers, dinner with friends, special celebrations or just for a quick pint.

Whatever your requirements, you’ll find The Firecrest’s seasonal food and warm hospitality a treat to enjoy.
Booking highly recommended
