The Lazy Pig in the Pantry

The Lazy Pig in the Pantry has opened its doors after a highly-anticipated revamp. We took the short journey over to Chesham to check out the innovative interior design and the array of choices available on the brand-new menu.

Being in the middle of the countryside, you could be forgiven for thinking of The Lazy Pig in the Pantry as just another country pub offering classic pub lunches. However, this is no ordinary country pub, but rather a gastro-pub/ restaurant offering high quality food in a high-quality environment.

As soon as we arrived, the impressive redesign immediately made it clear that this is something special. There’s a bar area for more casual meet-ups, smaller tables and booths for intimate meals as well as a larger, open-plan dining room, and there’s also a private dining room complete with sliding doors for events and parties. And, on top of all of that, there’s the restaurant’s party-piece: a glass conservatory with folding ceiling and walls, so that in the summer, it becomes an open-air patio that allows you to soak in the calming countryside all around.

The menu keeps pace with the impressive aesthetics, too; a variety of wood-fired pizzas are on offer and there’s an incredible range of steak options, all cooked in a Josper charcoal oven (including a vegetarian cauliflower steak!) There are plenty of traditional main course choices too, from sausage and mash to fish and chips, and there’s also some unique additions, like the chicken and pancetta pie or the sweet potato chilli; no matter who you’re coming with, there’s something for everyone.

They also pride themselves on their amazing Sunday Lunch menu – and, based on the quality of the butternut squash and sweet potato curry I had, I can say for certain that I’ll be returning at the end of a week at some point!

Whilst this is still a place for a casual dining experience, The Lazy Pig in the Pantry’s remarkable range and classy interior makes this feel like more of a place for dinner dates and celebrations. A strong recommendation.
