Did you know, for example, that it’s an opportunity for retired people to meet together in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere to learn new skills, share their skills with others and enjoy being sociable?
In the UK, there are over 40,000 interest groups where people are meeting together to learn and to have fun. There are groups for anything that people locally find interesting or fun – from cookery to creative writing, philosophy to films, maths to mindfulness, from sharing meals to singing.
South Bucks u3a, based in Beaconsfield, has groups of walkers, tennis players, birdwatchers, opera lovers, film watchers, collectors, gardeners and many more. Interest groups cover subjects as diverse as archaeology, current affairs, croquet, bridge, art, book groups, history, jazz, wine and much more. And anyone with a particular interest not yet catered for is welcome to start their own group.
Members of the u3a movement are busy taking part in activities which are stimulating both mentally and physically and most importantly, they are staying active and involved.
Want to know more? South Bucks u3a will be holding an Awareness Day on Saturday 11th September on the Council Green in Beaconsfield between 12 noon and 3pm. Why not come along and see what we have to offer?
