NEW ‘WHAT’S ON GUIDE’, NEW SEASON, COMING TO MILTON KEYNES THEATRE
There really will be something to put you in a merry mood at the beginning of the year with top musicals, classic drama, beautiful dances and lots of comedy and live music. But before all of that, there is still plenty of chance to keep the magic of Christmas going with performances of Robin Hood continuing into January. EastEnders star Shane Richie plays the title role in this show for all of the family and continues through to Sunday January 13.
Kicking off the new season is a stage adaptation of a book which has sold more than 20 million copies all around the world. Samantha Womack returns to Milton Keynes Theatre to star in The Girl on the Train based on the Paula Hawkins novel of the same name with this new thriller leaving people guessing until the final minute. The show runs from Wednesday 23rd January to Saturday 26th January.
Another popular novel Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird is also coming to the stage. Running from Monday 18th February 18th to Saturday February 23rd. Set in the Deep South, Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel sees racial injustice divide a small-town community. With integrity and compassion, lawyer Atticus Finch seeks the truth. His courageous daughter, Scout, brings hope to a neighbourhood in turmoil.
Musical fans can get ready to do the time warp all over again as the much loved The Rocky Horror Show returns from Monday 4th February to Saturday 9th February. The cult sci-fi musical sees Strictly Come Dancing professional Joanne Clifton and A1s Ben Adams playing Janet and Brad respectively. West End star Stephen Webb steps into the stocking and suspenders to play Frank. Comedian Dom Joly will star as the narrator of the show.
Or alternatively a musical will Relight Your Fire as Take That musical The Band comes to Milton Keynes for the first time from Tuesday 5th March to Saturday 9th March. It’s 1993 and for five 16 year old girls, the band is everything. A group of girls who were once inseparable reunite after 25 years apart and try once more to fulfil their dream of meeting the boyband whose music became the soundtrack to their lives. It will feature all of their hits including Never Forget, The Flood, The Greatest Day and Shine.
Making a return to the theatre will be Alexandra Burke in the role of Rachel Marron in the musical of The Bodyguard. Former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker. Each expects to be in charge; what they don’t expect is to fall in love. This will be with us from two weeks from Tuesday March 12 to Saturday March 23.
One of the most famous dance maestros Matthew Bourne is bringing his five star rated production of Swan Lake to Milton Keynes from Tuesday 29th January to Saturday 2nd February. The show replaces the female corps-de-ballet with a menacing male ensemble, which shattered conventions, turned tradition upside down and took the dance world by storm. It is a production which has won numerous awards including Olivier’s and Tony’s.
After the sell out success of their previous show The Wipers Times, Private Eye and Have I Got News For You regular Ian Hislop and comedy writer Nick Newman bring their new play Trial By Laughter to the venue from Monday 25th February to Saturday 2nd March. The duo have taken inspiration from real life events In 1817 bookseller, publisher and satirist William Hone stood trial for parodying religion, the despotic government and the libidinous monarchy. The only crime he had committed was to be funny.
Welsh National Opera will be bringing three different shows from Wednesday 27th March to Saturday 30th March. Un Ballo in Maschera, The Magic Flute and Robert Devereux with music by both Verdi and Mozart showcased.
One night performances include comedians Jason Manford and Dave Gorman while Anton Du Beke and Erin Boag bringing their new show with musical performances from Paul Carrack and Collabro as well as tributes to Rod Stewart and The Rolling Stones.
Coming later in the year will see Cameron Mackintosh’s popular musical Les Miserables at Milton Keynes Theatre. Other musicals coming later in the year include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, American Idiot, Thriller Live, Fame, Annie, Hair, Motown the Musical, Priscilla, Doctor Dolittle and Kinky Boots. There will also be drama in the shape of Glengarry Glen Ross and House on Cold Hill.
